Since its establishment, the department maintained a Museum of Zoology used for teaching, demonstration and research. Faunal specimens have been collected and maintained in the museum. The museum houses a large number of collections of invertebrates, freshwater fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammalian specimens, embryological and histological slides, slides of parasites, skeletons, models, etc. and data preparation is still in progress. This museum is used to study the natural history of Nepalese fauna such as morphology, anatomy, histology, taxonomy, animal distribution and so on. Now, the Central Department Zoology Museum of Tribhuvan University (CDZMTU) has reputable national collections including several type specimens (holotype and paratype). These types of materials are catalogued and mentioned in the published international journals.
